Citizens of Perast made the island bigger by throwing the rocks and sinking the old ships. The church was built in the fifteenth century, with the icon of Our Lady now standing in it. It was renovated in 1722 and contains 68 pictures by Tripo Kokolja, Baroque artist from Perast. There are also some Italian pictures here.

Our Lady of the Rocks is quite unique in that it's a man-made island. It was created by sinking old ships loaded with rocks. As the legend goes, it was created by local seamen who discovered the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock in the sea. After this they laid a rock in that same spot every time they returned from a successful voyage.
